Hearing aids come in many sizes, and are commonly categorized by the placement on the ear.
Receiver in the Canal (RIC)
A RIC looks like an open fit hearing aid but contains an amplifier inside the ear tip, rather than in the main component that sits behind the ear. It can provide the most natural sound quality, least occlusion, reduced wind noise and better localization and speech clarity in noisy situations. They also come in very modern and sleek designs.
Behind the ear (BTE)
A behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid is a two-piece device. It consists of the hearing amplifier that sits neatly behind (or on top of) the outer ear, and a custom mould or dome that transmits sound into the ear. There is a wide range of colours available for matching your skin tone and hair.
In the ear (ITE) / In the Canal (ITC) / Completely in the canal (CIC)
A in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid is custom made based on an impression of your ear, and it sits in the ear canal which fills the entire ear. A in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aid fits in a smaller portion of the canal. A completely-in-the-canal (CIC) hearing aid is the smallest hearing aid.
