One in six Australians have some degree of hearing loss. This is equivalent to over three million Australians. As many as half the people aged over 60 experience some form of hearing impairment. However, this trend is not only confined to the later years, but becoming more prevalent in young adults who are exposed to loud music. Hearing loss is projected to increase to 1 in every 4 Australians by 2050. Hearing loss can be caused by exposure to noise, medical conditions, trauma or most commonly due to aging.

The effect of a hearing loss reduces the capacity to communicate and affects the quality of life in areas such as personal relationships, education, employment and daily life interactions.

Some early signs of hearing loss are

You can hear but have difficulties with the clarity of speech.

You have difficulties following conversations in a noisy environment.

You feel that people mumble.

You often ask people for repeats.

You need to turn up the television to hear clearly.

You misinterpret what is said over the telephone.

You have ringing or noises in your ears.

You find yourself avoiding situations where you need to communicate with others.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, you are not alone. The first step is to visit your doctor. Some conditions, such as ear infections, are temporary and can be treated. If further investigation and assessment is required, your doctor will refer you to an Audiologist or Ear Specialist for further investigation and management.

At Rowville Hearing, we are committed to journey every step with you to better hearing, so that you can once again embrace the sounds of life and reconnect with family and friends.
