Paediatrics
Hearing is essential for children’s development. Children use their hearing to learn and develop communication skills such as speech and language. A hearing loss can affect behaviour, education and relationships with family and friends, if not treated.
At Rowville Hearing, our Audiologist is trained in assessing the hearing of children over the age of 3. Hearing tests are conducted in a friendly and fun environment, accompanied by play. Parents and carers are always welcomed to be involved in the testing procedure. The tests that Rowville Hearing conduct for children are as follows:
- Play Audiometry, which is a fun listening game to check hearing acuity.
- Impedance Audiometry / Tympanometry which is a quick and painless measure of the function of the middle ear system (eg. to detect an ear infection).
- Basic Speech Audiometry which assesses speech perception.
If hearing assessment results indicate a temporary loss, our hearing professional will refer your child back to the GP for necessary treatment. If a permanent loss is detected, your child will be referred to a specialist hearing centre which will discuss options of intervention for your child.

Adult Hearing Services
Rowville Hearing provides hearing services for all adults. Adults who are eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program under the Office of Hearing Services (OHS) can access a range of services, free of charge. If you are not eligible under OHS, appointments and services will be charged privately.
A full comprehensive audiological assessment will determine the degree and type of hearing loss. An initial assessment takes approximately 60 minutes and covers the following:
- Otoscopic Examination of the external ear canal
- Pure Tone Audiometry to check hearing acuity
- Impedance Tympanometry to assess the health of the middle ear
- Speech Perception Testing
If the hearing assessment results indicate a temporary loss, our Audiologist will refer you back to your GP for necessary treatment. If a permanent loss is detected, our Audiologist will discuss your personal needs and journey with you through the right solutions such as the fitting of hearing devices and/or assistive listening devices.
Upon selecting your choice of hearing device, you will be provided with a 60 minutes initial fitting and programming appointment which covers personalized programming of your hearing devices using advanced computerized programming software and counselling of the use and care of your hearing devices. 2 weeks after the fitting, you will be provided with a follow-up appointment to discuss your progress, and to fine-tune your devices. We also provide ongoing future adjustment appointments as required.

Eligible clients can access a range of hearing services designed to meet their needs, free of charge. High quality hearing devices are also fully subsidized, but clients have an option of contributing to the cost of the devices if they require higher technology to suit their personal needs.
